The Doha December

There were a number of wonderful purchases made in December, so many that I am slowing down tremendously over the next few months.  I am not stopping by any stretch, but I am shifting the focus of my acquisitions from giant Japanese dream pieces that I've been coveting for decades to plugging holes in my G1 packaging list.  So, enjoy this quick recap of my December gains - I sure did!

The BotCon 2005 Virulent Clones & BotCon 2008's SG Ricochet.

Dirge here is sealed to his card, but will need to slip into a different box as this one is a little smushy.
I told the Girl that my Hot Rod needed a bubble, and this was the result:  my X-mas gift.  She wins at gift-giving!

Misfire - The previous owner made a styrofoam tray for him, so I need to track down a bubble for him.

Legends Jazz -
The G1 Legends figures an oddity for their time.  They were exclusive to K-Mart, and featured the 1987/8 digital explosion card background with the 1989 logo typeface.  They also included the decals for their Pretender shells, for which these figures served as the inner robots.  The instructions were modified to find places for the extra decals.  I only have one left to find sealed, that being Grimlock.

ERECTOR!

Moving on to the Japanese G1 pieces...

The Seacons have a special place in my heart, as they were the first combiner team I completed, back on X-mas, 1988.  King Poseidon here is the Japanese version of the team, and came packaged individually and in this very pretty gift set.
Fun Fact: The US Piranacon giftset omitted Nautilator, the lobster guy.

A second Victory Leo?  For sprued missiles and unapplied decals, YES.

This is Roadfire, from 1990's Zone.  He was the last of the Powered Masters to be introduced.

Star Convoy, sealed.   Check out the little Micromaster Hot Rodimus!

Star Convoy (Reissue) for the sake of completeness and good deals.
That's it for December.  It was a big month.  January's shaping up to be fun too, if not so big.  I have my eyes on a couple of real treats.  See you then

November

As I while away my time, trying to choose between purchasing pieces to fill gaps or ones to display as packaged samples of things I already own, I find myself doing my best to appease both schools of thought.  My eBay watch list ebbs and flows, and my Stack and Pile of Loot at a certain pair of online retailers continue to swell.  This month was very productive, as I hope the following images detail:

Camshaft, one of the Omnibots...
Downshift, one of Camshaft's buddies...

...and this little guy.

The Micromaster Off-Road Patrol...

Roadgrabber, one of the harder to find Pretenders in this shape...

Flattop

"K-Mart" Legends Starscream...

The Record Store Day exclusive pressing of the TF:TM Soundtrack...

...and finally: Minerva.  Her box is opened, but her stickers are unapplied.  She looks amazing.

So I guess that wraps it up for November.  Be sure to check out my next post, which should feature more carded G1 stuff, and a smattering of BotCon odds & ends.

Doha - October

...Grumble, Grumble...

I know.  It's been a year since I last posted.  I've been busy, sure, but not too busy to shop.  As a result of my endless meandering, this is less a post about setting up my collection and more a brag-reel of my latest purchases. I will endeavor to at least maintain this as a monthly recap of my disdain for money.
Enjoy.

Thrust, minty on an opened bubble.

Flywheels and Battletrap

Punch/Counterpunch unfortunately came without a bubble, but the box was too nice to pass on.

Blitzwing, factory sealed.

Octane, factory selaed.

Bonecrusher, factory sealed.

Barrage, sealed to card.

Axer, unused in an open box.

Pincher, factory sealed and graded.
Legends Bumblebee, factory sealed.

FansProject Tricerabot, as a friend picked him up for me from TFCon Charlotte.
G1 Ratchet, unused in his original mailer box.

G1 Ratchet, the 1985 rubsign version, unused in an open box.
This Big Powered set is factory sealed, bought from a friend in Japan.

Racked

I haven't given up.

No real snags have hindered us, but we are not yet (still?) in a position to posit the display of our collection.  The whole shebang is in storage at the time of this writing, and I find myself once again displaced by ocean from my faithful friends and allies.

I will be home soon, and we will begin again.

The Start of Something New

My name is Peter.

Yeah.  Me.

First and foremost I am a collector of toys.  Transformers, mostly, I have amassed a sizable set over the past thirty years.  If my current counts are to be believed, I have over 2700 pieces in my Transformers collection alone.  Spanning the breadth of the fiction and the output by Hasbro, Takara, and TakaraTomy, I am quite proud and rather fond of my toys, my troops.  I've strayed into other franchises, among them G.I. Joe, Masters of the Universe, M.A.S.K., Wheeled Warriors, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, DC Universe, and others.  This blog will hopefully serve to catalog my collection, provide reviews and commentary, and track my progress as I make the attempt to cohesively display my stuff, which is made all the more difficult by one simple fact.

I am in Africa.

As a member of the US military, I tend to find myself away from home for long, dusty jaunts to places that tourists usually avoid.  Having been on this career path for nearly a decade, I have had most of my collection sorted into storage totes for the duration.  I should be home some time in July, after which I will throw considerable monies and earnest effort into making a home for myself, one somewhat more permanent than what I've experienced for most of my adult life.  I'm looking forward to it.

I promise, there's cool stuff in here.
So follow this mess!  You'll see photos of cool toys, some hard to find, and all excellent in some form or fashion.
